Actega DS and Dayton Systems Group develop packaging applicable for most beverages

GERMAN-based ACTEGA DS has collaborated with US company, Dayton Systems Group (DSG) to develop a new type of beverage packaging.

The DSG Beverage Cap Can is resealable, non-breakable, and recyclable, and comes with a quick-twist-off recloseability that used to be available only on glass.  To produce it requires the patented DSG Cap Can production system which is made up of a dome production system, a cap production system and a seal liner system to line the cap with seal material.

The seal liner system takes unlined closures and permanently attaches plastic material to the inside of the caps so that it can be used in pasteurisation, hot fill, cold fill, retort, and aseptic filling.  In pasteurisation for example, an extremely flexible and soft plastic is requested. Actega’s SVELON? 520 L fits this purpose. The PVC-free material is supplied to closure manufacturers as granulate, and complies with US and EU regulations. Applicable in packaging of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, the material has an elasticity that provides excellent sealing protection, with high concentration of carbonation and up to 60% alcoholic resistance. It is also suitable for cold filling, pasteurisation up to 85 °C and hot-fill up to 95 °C.

The Dayton Systems Group Seal Liner machine extrusion takes Actega DS supplied dried blended thermoplastic SVELON? 520 L, which is provided in pellet form, melts it, and inserts it into the cap. It then cold moulds it into the fixed gasket utilising the DSG patented sealing profile. The machine is equipped with an extrusion nozzle, cooling system, PC Interface operating system, defective cap reject device, and a cap output counter.

Actega group belongs to ALTANA AG. The ACTEGA Coatings & Sealants Product Division develops and produces coatings and sealants for the packaging and graphic arts industries.

Dayton specialises in production tooling systems, products and services to meet the needs of the can industry.
