ADDIS ABABA-The African Union Commission has invited members of the media in the commemoration of the 3rd Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security. The event will take place on October 31 at the African Union Commission headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 9:00 -13:00.
The ADFNS 2012 will provide a platform to engage food and nutrition security stakeholders toward working to fulfil Africa’s need for food and nutrition security, taking into account Africa’s strategic frameworks which include the Strategy for the Accelerated Industrial Development of Africa (AIDA) adopted by the African Union Summit in 2008 and the African Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Initiative (3ADI), launched by African heads of state and the government in Abuja in March 2010. AUC chairperson H.E. Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will deliver the opening remarks at the ceremony.
The ADFNS expects to hasten the achievement of the MDGs, and what could follow the MDGs after 2015. This year, the theme of the event is ‘Ensuring access to safe and nutritious foods’.
The meeting expects the attendance of government representatives and leaders from global, regional and national agriculture associations, scientific and research institutions, as well as the private sector.
