Aircraft maker opens repair center in Singapore aerospace park

The new flagship facility performs certain PW4000 engine component repair and will house various office support departments, including the company's recently established regional office, and Global Services Engineering – Asia, which provides highly skilled aftermarket repair design for the company's businesses in the Asia Pacific region.

The new Pratt & Whitney Component Solutions unit forms part of Pratt & Whitney's US$110 million investment in Seletar Aerospace Park, where the company is also building a new 180,000 square-foot manufacturing facility to manufacture PurePower? engine hybrid aluminum fan blades and high pressure turbine disks.

Mr Yeoh Keat Chuan, managing director of Economic Development Board, said: "The government is committed to providing resources and infrastructure, to continue supporting the growth of this industry. For example, the 1,000 hectare expansion of Changi will include dedicated space for air frame MRO, which will in turn lead to downstream MRO activities. In addition, we are also accelerating plans for the development of Seletar Aerospace Park to ensure we will have continued space and resources for the growth of this sector."

Pratt & Whitney manufactures engines for wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A330. It also partners General Electric (GE) under the Engine Alliance to provide power for the Airbus A380.

Pratt & Whitney has a total of nine businesses in Singapore, with over 2,400 staff here.
