Food services company Al Shamil Foodstuff Trading will be launching a new initiative to bring healthy food in schools around the UAE. The project, which aims to protect the health and well-being of school children, will be divided into two programmes – the Pediabites and the Healthy School Lunch.
The Pediabites programme will include handing out of breakfast meals packed in safe and disposable containers to students as they board school buses.
By midday, packed lunches will contain healthy portions of meat, poultry or oily fish, plus fruit and vegetables, bread, cereal and potatoes. It is hoped that in the long run, children will be weaned away from junk food and sugary drinks. The project is backed by careful research.
Al Shamil Foodstuff started as a trader in Indian spices in 2008, and diversified into food packaging and distribution to become a fully-fledged food services company in UAE.
