Alfa Laval introduces inline powder-liquid mixer

ALFA Laval’s Hybrid Powder Mixer delivers energy-efficient powder mixing to achieve greater productivity and energy savings. 

 

The product combines pump and powder dissolving technologies in a single versatile unit. It can mix and pump both wet and dry ingredients into a homogenous blend using only a single motor drive, unlike most products that require four separate electric motors and therefore consume a lot of energy. When used in combination with the Alfa Laval Rotary Jet Mixer, the equipment allows for efficient mixing in the associated production vessel. 

 

The Hybrid Powder Mixer is the only hygienic powder mixer capable of drawing powder into the unit while simultaneously pumping the resulting process liquid at pressures up to 4 bar. This eliminates the need for a separate discharge pump obsolete.

 

The mixer effectively pre-blends the powder and liquid before the mixture enters the high-shear stage, contributing to faster and more effective dissolution. It creates high dynamic shear in several different steps to reduce energy need for complete powder dissolution unlike other inline powder mixers that create mechanical shear in a small area. 

 

The equipment is also suitable for use as part of an efficient Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) system.

 

The mixer’s capability for fast and homogenous powder mixing at high dry matter concentration cuts processing time. Its use of only a single electric motor for powder mixing, pumping, and CIP helps lower installation costs, while the simplified operation reduces maintenance expenses. Finally, by helping achieve as much as 50% energy savings, the Hybrid Powder Mixer decreases power consumption and operating costs.
