Algatechnologies expanding capacity

ASTAXANTHIN producer Algatechnologies is expanding production capacity of its AstaPure brand in response to growing global demand and several long-term agreements secured with leading companies in the dietary supplement and nutrition industries.

The first phase of the expansion will increase production capacity by 30% by end 2011, and the second stage will further increase the capacity by an additional 50% by mid-2012. Alongside the production expansion, the company will widen its capabilities in the development of new micro-algae cultivation technologies.

Astaxanthin, a natural red pigment and the most important natural carotenoid found in the marine world, is an extremely potent antioxidant recognised to be as many as 500 times more effective than vitamin E, and more powerful than beta-carotene. Algatechnologies is the only company that produces astaxanthin from micro-algae in a closed system that is fully controlled and totally exposed to natural sunlight.
