Amcor Rigid Plastics consolidates 2 manufacturing facilities

Amcor Rigid Plastics will transfer and consolidate its Des Plaines, Ill. manufacturing facility into its Itasca, Ill. manufacturing facility to better meet changing customer needs.

A phased consolidation is planned over the next 12 months to ensure there will be no service disruptions to customers. Des Plaines employees and equipment will be relocated to nearby Itasca during the process.  

According to Michael Curia, vice president and general manager of Amcor Rigid Plastics’ North America Diversified Products business unit, the consolidation of these two operations will allow the company to meet the changing needs of its customers in the Midwest, provide the company  with future growth options and improve its level of service to existing customers.

Amcor Rigid Plastics acquired the Des Plaines facility from Alcan Global Pharmaceutical Packaging in 2010. The company currently operates two other manufacturing facilities in the Chicago area – a site in Batavia, Ill. and a new on-site operation in the Pullman neighborhood on Chicago’s south side.
