AMOB SA is known worldwide for its capacity to provide one of the biggest and specialised range of equipment for tube & pipe bending, section bending and swaging, from the most simple and manual to the most complex and easy to operate CNC solutions made so far covering massive market fields such as: automotive, petrol & offshore, aeronautics, shipyard, furniture, construction, power plants, chemical industry, steel structures, agriculture, among others.
The Portugal-based company has gradually improved its capabilities and production capacity in order to meet customer’s requirements and the market demand. Also along the years, AMOB specialised in the production of other machinery type, such as roll forming lines, hydraulic single and double action deep drawing presses and stone processing machines. Products are designed in AMOB technical department by high qualified and skilled engineers who can offer a very good ratio quality/price based in innovative solutions.
In an interview with Dr Valter Xavier, company Chief Finance Officer (CFO), International Metalworking News – Middle East & Africa (IMNE) had a good look at the company’s rapid developments, its operations in the Middle East market including recent announcements.
IMNE: How did you start your company, and what previous experience did you have that made you confident that you could succeed in this field?
Dr Valter Xavier: AMOB started as a family company in 1960 by Mr António Martins Oliveira Barros, a person with background in metalworking industries, great working capacity and an entrepreneur. The business was passed to his two sons, Luis Barros and Manuel Barros who assumed the administration in the 1990’s and that took AMOB SA to the next level.
IMNE: What characteristic or business model differentiates AMOB from its competitors? How does this factor in the company’s success?
Dr Valter Xavier: At AMOB, we are working closely with our customers to develop innovative, value adding solutions that will fully meet their future requirements. To perfect our leading-edge technologies, we are using the most advanced facilities and making substantial investments in research and development.
By doing this, we are providing our customers with new products, integrated systems and services that will enable them to realise the immense benefits of improved performance and optimised through-life costs. AMOB is delivering total satisfaction today and thinking ahead to deliver intelligent machinery solutions tomorrow.
IMNE: How do you instil and develop quality consciousness in your employees?
Dr Valter Xavier: We lead by example; all our collaborators understand AMOB philosophy, we have a great balance between more experienced collaborators and the recently arrived.
IMNE: How important is skills training and personnel development at AMOB?
Dr Valter Xavier: We are constantly providing training, organising workshops, etc. Besides the technical aspect we try to increase also the group spirit between all elements. Our machines quality will never be separated from the lives of the people working at AMOB plant.
