At the end of August the automotive manufacturing industry from China and East Asian countries will gather again for AMTS 2015 - the Shanghai International Automotive Manufacturing Technology & Material Show and its accompanying expert forums.

The exhibition will open its doors from August 26 through August 28 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). The accompanying expert forums on car body painting, stamping and engineering as well as machinery engineering technology for automotive will already start from August 24. This year about 450 exhibitors from 28 countries will showcase their latest product, technology and service developments across 55,000 square metres of gross exhibition space to carmakers and the automotive supplier industry.

360° automotive manufacturing

Following the show’s growth over the years, AMTS added another hall in 2015 and will now cover five halls at SNIEC (E1-E5). Continuing to be the most comprehensive exhibition of its kind in Asia, AMTS’ scope reaches from car design and engineering, production machinery and tools, quality and measuring technologies to related software and services. There is a dedicated hall for OEMs and one hall focused on assembly and handling in a spin-off named AHTE (Shanghai International Assembly & Handling Technology Exhibition 2015 for Automotive & Auto Parts). “We are experiencing for some time now a shift from a mainly growth oriented approach of production towards establishing higher manufacturing quality and an own innovation culture. There is also the expected consolidation of the suppliers. In that light access to the latest technologies and processes has become even more important to stay competitive,” explains Tom Zhou, General Manager at Shanghai Forever Exhibition Co., Ltd and founder of AMTS. “This is why AMTS covers the complete car making process from design to assembly and represents all levels of production from materials and means of production to process engineering. Also, we continue to internationalise the range of exhibitors, all in order to provide an up-to-date 360° picture of the available technologies to the visitors.”

International exhibitors in all segments

Domestic players have long known about AMTS, however more and more international players join the exhibition, bringing internationally proven solutions to the Chinese market. At AMTS 2015 such include for instance production and special purpose machinery from COMAU, MAG, Trumpf, Hanwha, WEISS, Ruhlamat, STRAMA-MPS or TOX. In the automation segment there are amongst others KUKA, Kawasaki, Stäubli, FANUC, Tuenkers, SIEMENS, IFM, FIBRO and Lenze. ThyssenKrupp and Bosch Rexroth will present their solutions in engineering and component manufacturing. With respect to assembly, cleaning or painting systems, world-leading companies are represented with DÜRR, Conductix, EISENMANN, Gefit, Minitech or Deprag showcasing their latest products. Increased quality requirements, enhanced factory automation and generally the widely discussed and anticipated trend towards integration and digitalisation of production processes further leads to a stronger demand for high-level measurement, quality control, sensor and testing technology. At this year’s AMTS among others Zeiss, LMI, Metronor, Innomatec, Balluff or HBM will cater to this demand.

3D printing / additive manufacturing for automotive

For the first time in this year and following the increasing demand for this technology in China, there will be a special zone dedicated to 3D printing including both machinery, engineering as well as software, services, related material and technologies. “3D Printing has a different foundation from classic manufacturing methods,” explains Kitty Wang – founder of the first Chinese 3D Printing Online Platform “3D Science Valley”, who was invited by AMTS to curate the 3D pavilion. “Its at first all about data. The requirements for gathering and preparing the data, handling the machinery, choosing materials, processes and technologies for different manufacturing or R&D purposes, as well as services and engineering needs around additive manufacturing, all together are needed to create an efficient environment.” The pavilion at AMTS takes all these aspects into account in order to introduce visitors to the full array of 3D printing. Currently automotive holds a share of about 25% of the 3D printing market in China, Wang concludes.
