Anis Sakaria - Strategic edge in the packaging arena

Incepted as a modest company in 2003, Continental Plastic Industries is a premier example of growth and innovation. Converted shortly into a private entity, the company grew leaps and bounds. Today, it is recognised and respected as a technologically sound decorative plastics producer in Pakistan, whilst providing a stable and competitive return to its stakeholders. In a recent interview with International Plastics News for Asia (IRNA), Mr. Anis Sakaria, Continental Plastic's Director, shared his company's vision, its growth trajectory and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

IRNA: Continental Plastic Industries deal with a variety of consumer and industrial products. What has been the company's specialisation so far?
Mr. Sakaria: Continental Plastic Industries (CPI) Private Limited deals with consumer and industrial products. We focus on a wide range of high-quality, injection moulded PP pots on the consumer side of the business, and arguably we offer the most comprehensive range of freestanding UN certified injection-moulded pails on the industrial side. A range of high quality injection-moulded PP industrial pails are available in volumes from 500ml to 30 litres.

CPI is regarded as a pioneer in plastic jar and bottle manufacturing in Pakistan. We deploy compression moulding as a widely used process to make plastic bottle caps, which reckons to have the most comprehensive range of closure moulding systems in the world. We produce injection moulded caps and closures utilised in many applications in addition to a vast range of standard and custom-made extrusion blow-moulded containers and bottles.

CPI deploys compression moulding which not only relays low stress on materials but also entails low processing temperatures, reduced cooling temperatures and continuous moulding with optimal timing and integration of production stages.

IRNA: How has the company evolved since its inception?
Mr. Sakaria: The company started its operations in July 2003 and later converted to a private entity in 2007 to increase its efficiency and productivity through sound corporate governance. The company acquired Tri Plast Industry in August 2009 to promote a sense of corporate culture. This acquisition led to an increase of 20% in combined earnings.

Today, CPI has been known as a producer of a diverse range of PET bottles. Aside from our vast selection of products, we are capable of undertaking large volume orders of PET bottles and containers, and can guarantee on-time delivery to our clients. Our packaging specialists are ready to customise and tailor-produce any form of packaging in response to the needs of our customers.

IRNA: What is the company's unique selling proposition?
Mr. Sakaria: Our competitive advantage is achieved by providing our customers with superior quality products and systems at internationally defined standards. We not only apply methods of continuous improvement in all aspects of the company's business, we also aim at providing a safe, team-oriented working environment with equal opportunities for all genres of people.

We cater to companies and industries all over Pakistan. Internationally, we supply to clients based in the USA. Our clientele entails brands such as Pepsi, Coke, Nestle, Woodward, Candyland, Danpak and others covering the food, pharmaceutical, automotive, household and cleaning industries.
