Mining company PT Aneka Tambang, known as Antam, has given the Japanese Sumitomo Corporation the task of working on the development of coal-fired power plants, which forms part of the company’s modernisation work on its ferronickel factory in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi. ??
Antam said on Monday that it had signed a contract of engineering, procurement and construction on the power plant projects worth US$145 million with the Sumitomo Corporation. The power plants will have a capacity of 2x30 megawatts.?
“When the coal-fired power plants commence operations, Antam will be able to reduce its energy costs for the ferronickel factories by around 15 to 20 percent,” Antam corporate secretary Tedy Badrujaman said.?The development of the first unit of the power plants will require 25 months while the second unit will require 28 months, he said.
The power plants will supply electricity to Antam’s FeNi I, II and III factories. Antam will need to provide around 300,000 metric tons of coal at calorific values of 4,200 kilocalories (kcal) per kilogram for the power plants. Antam, whose stocks are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and the Australia Stock Exchange (ASX), is modernising and optimising its ferronickel factory FeNi I, which has been in operation since 1976.??
The modernisation project, which is estimated to cost between US$450 million to US$500 million, also includes the development for port facilities and belt conveyers, which will transport nickel ore to Antam’s factories. Construction activities of the modernAir Jordan IV 4 Shoes
