An interview with Amy Tseng,
Assistant Product Manager
APEX Medical Corporation
XT-III Plus is a fixed-pressure continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device used for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It is similar to the XT-III with additional features, including pressure variation algorithms, memory card data storage, and event detection. This product includes an LCD display and a four-button control panel. Data can be saved on a memory card and easily transferred to a caregiver for review and evaluation.
MPA: How can XT-III Plus lessen sleep problems and avoid sleep apnea? Is XT-III Plus recommended for preterm infants?
Tseng: XT-III Plus is a CPAP device, and it is the most effective treatment for OSA.
Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which a patient has one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while he sleeps. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes. They often occur 5 to 30 times per hour. Sleep apnea usually is a chronic condition that disrupts one's sleep. The patient often moves out of deep sleep and into light sleep when his breathing pauses or becomes shallow. This results in poor sleep quality that makes one tired during the day. Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness.
A CPAP is a standard treatment for moderate to severe OSA. XT-III Plus is a CPAP device that provides a constant stream of air, which keeps one's breathing passages open while he sleeps. With an embedded pressure sensor, XT-III Plus can provide accurate pressure level as prescribed by physicians. In addition, it contains automatic leak adjustment and altitude compensation to ensure accurate pressure output and optimal treatment therapy.
Right now, XT-III Plus is recommended for adults only.
What makes the CPAP System XP Series better than the other CPAP devices in the market?
Like any other CPAP machine, XP Series has three main parts: a mask or other device that fits over one's nose or one's nose and mouth. Straps keep the mask in place while one is wearing it. A tube that connects the mask to the machine's motor and a motor that blows air into the tube.
However, APEX CPAP System XP Series has four great features. Compact size: XT's palm-size design reduces almost 30% of the volume compared with other CPAPs. Built-in power supply: no need to carry an extra external power supply, which is perfect for travel. Ultra quiet operation: delicate technical design ensures the noise level is below 30 dBA during operation. Easy-to-use interface: LCD display with backlight is clear to read, and the intuitive user interface is easy to use.
If one has given up on sleep apnea machines in the past because of discomfort, he owes it to himself to give them a second look. CPAP technology is constantly being updated and improved. XT-III Plus is lighter, quieter, and more comfortable, so a patient is advised to make sure his sleep apnea device is up-to-date.
What are the improvements on features and functions of XT-III Plus that are not found in XT-III and XT-I?
I would like to show you the following table. You can then tell there is a great improvement in XT-III Plus.
In addition, data management software for XT-III Plus allows physicians to easily collect and track patient information, such as pressure settings, blower hours, and therapy hours. Information can be transferred to a PC or saved up in an SD memory card.
What are the optional accessories that come with XT-III Plus?
Masks, tubings, and carrying bags as well as SD card, USB cable, and software.
