API China: Quality hormone products

NEWCHEM, a first-time exhibitor at API China in Suzhou, specialises in the manufacture of corticosteroids, hormones and prostaglandins. These active pharmaceutical ingredients are synthesised in the company’s facility in Verona, Italy, which have been inspected and approved by government agencies, including the FDA (USA), KFDA (Korea), PMDA (Japan) and of course, Italy’s Ministry of Health.

In 2011, following successful registration of its products, the company began doing business in China.

Michel Lacombe, general manager of Newchem France, said these APIs are being sold worldwide including customers in India and China. “In India, the bulk is sold to generics exporters, and in China, for companies targeting the domestic market,” he said.

“This is one difference between the Chinese and Indian pharmaceutical industries – the focus on the domestic market for one and on the export market for the other,” Mr Lacombe noted.
Both countries have stringent regulatory and documentation requirements, he also said.

Newchem maintains the same standards of quality and reliability irrespective of the country of destination, Mr Lacombe said.
