MODISAR, a livestock farm management application (desktop, web and mobile), bested 11 nominees vying for the Orange African Social Venture Prize. The management tool is designed to stimulate development of the livestock industry in Botswana and cultivate interest in livestock farming amongst younger generations by associating modern technologies with the nation’s passion for farming. Modisar targets the continuity and sustainability of the livestock sector, a major contributor to the gross domestic product in Botswana.

This prize, sponsored by Orange, the telecommunications corporation in France, aims to support the development of entrepreneurs and start-ups that offer solutions using information and communication technologies (ICT) to meet the needs of people living in Africa.
Over 450 candidates from Africa entered their projects for this competition, which is a clear sign of entrepreneurial spirit in the region. Entries were for healthcare, agriculture, education, energy, industry and commerce. Judged by Orange experts, and members of the media and institutions for development, the winners were announced in November during the AfricaCom Awards, an annual event that recognises the most significant innovations and achievements of the telecommunications industry in Africa.
