Arcal: Aluminium product specialist

 Established in 1981 , Arcal Architectural Aluminium today is one of the largest manufacturers of architectural aluminium products in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It offers turnkey services in designing, manufacturing, installation and exporting finished aluminium products to building industries across the Middle East. The company employs highly skilled and qualified designers, engineers, fabricators and installation crew.
For this month's Boardroom Connection, Managing Director Mr. R. K. Damani spoke to International Metalworking News – Middle East (IMNE) about their architectural aluminium products.

IMNE: What are the products you manufacture?
Damani: Arcal specialises in the manufacture of architectural aluminium products, such as: aluminium curtain wall, aluminium composite material, solar shade system, automatic doors, skylights, skylights and doors and windows
Aluminium Curtain wall – a product term used to describe a building facade, which does not carry any dead load from the building other than its own dead load, and one which transfers the horizontal loads (wind loads) that are incident upon it. These loads are transferred to the main building structure through connections at floors or columns of the building. A curtain wall is designed to resist air and water infiltration, wind forces acting on the building, seismic forces, usually only those imposed by the inertia of the curtain wall), and its own dead load forces.
Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) - is the material of choice when panel flatness and a high performance finish are a must. Made from two sheets of aluminium bonded to a thermoplastic core, ACM is strong yet lightweight and with the right product knowledge and equipment can be fabricated into components and systems that outperform other cladding materials in most situations. Spider System is a system for point-supported vertical glazing in which thermally toughened (tempered) glass sheets are used, in single glazing or in insulated glass. This system consists of a number of accessories with metal arms. At the end of each arm, a sheet of glass is fixed by the corners with a special screw. The rectangular glass sheets have 4 or 6 countersunk drilled holes into which countersunk stainless steel bolts acting as point-fixings. The space between the glass sheets are filled with weather seal. The support elements that hold the fitting can be space frame, glass fin or tension cables.

Doors and Windows -aluminium's unique combination of strength and lightness enables frames, sashes and fittings to be neat and unobtrusive. Because the frames, rails and stiles can be finer than those made in wood, they allow maximum entry of light and provide unobstructed views.

IMNE: What are your major markets? Do you sell them overseas or outside the Gulf region?
Damani: From the beginning, we had clienteles from neighbouring countries like Kuwait, Qatar and UAE. But several years later, we decided to focus on the local market because of the high product supply demand. Bahrain has left and right ongoing infrastructure projects, so it's very practical and ideal to focus in our home.
