THE DANISH dairy company, Arla Foods, has developed a packaging facility made up of three 40-foot containers. The packaging unit will be used to pack milk powder for the African market. It is powered by the 96 solar panels, which can deliver 12 hours production time a day. Fittings and weldings keep insects away and the ventilation system and secures an indoor temperature of maximum 250Celsius.
The facility is capable of receiving 40 sacks of milk powder of 25 kilos each. The sacks are emptied into a large funnel, which through a closed pipe system, sends the milk powder into a packing facility machine. The powder is packed into 25 grams, enough for one glass of milk. Besides the production area, the container has a laboratory and changing facility as well as a lavatory.
