The Athens facility will serve as a production and distribution hub for the company in the southern US

ATHENS, ALA.– Asahi Kasei Plastics North America Inc. held groundbreaking ceremony for its newest production site for advanced thermoplastic compounds in Limestone Country. The Athens facility is being eyed as production and distribution hub for Asahi Kasei’s products in the southern part of the US serving such sectors as automotive, commercial seating, pool & spa and electrical & electronics.

Asahi Kasei Plastics Alabama plant groundbreaking

Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce was present along with other officials. Also in attendance was Yuji Kobayashi, president of Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation. The $30 million plant is seen as a new chapter in Alabama’s role as an industrial hub. The new plant is located in the heart of the automotive hub of the south, which creates demand for innovative materials.

The newest compounding site for Asahi Kasei is expected to be fully operational the first quarter of 2016.
