Asia's Cosmetics Market: Global Focal Point

Source:Ringier Release Date:2013-03-11 261
in-cosmetics Asia 2012 show review

Growth in the East continues to gather pace and the Asian cosmetics market is a prime example of this trend. Euromonitor is predicting that by 2014, Asia's share of the global cosmetics and toiletries
market will be the same as Western Europe. Asia is now becoming a clear focal point for the global cosmetic industry as in-cosmetics Asia 2012 opened its doors to a record-breaking number of visitors.  It had an increase of 34 per cent compared to 2011, and attracted 5,163 visitors (audited) over the course of three days at Bangkok's International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC).

Recognised as the leading pan-Asian personal care ingredient show and organised by Reed Exhibitions, in-cosmetics Asia 2012 gave visitors unrivalled access to a total of 294 exhibitors from 29 countries. Responding to the needs of Asia's ageing population, anti-ageing featured heavily at the show, as did natural and organic ingredients, sun care and skin firming.

Plans are already underway for the 2013 show, which will take place at BITEC on 29 to 31 October.

Innovative Concepts for Beauty

DSM Nutritional Products'  Personal Care Division, a leading supplier of vitamins, bio-actives and UV filters, showcased a range of innovative products for skin care and hair care during in-cosmetics Asia.SYN  ? -TC,  an  anti-aging  peptide complex, was one of this year's highlights. According to Dr. Volker Rosenberger, DMS's Global Marketing Manager for skin care, the innovation is based on patented peptide technology and combines three different peptides to achieve best performance.SYN ? -TC  offers  a  visible  benefit  for smoother skin and a generally improved, younger-looking appearance.

"Consumers are constantly looking for fast-acting solutions to looking young and beautiful. SYN ? -TC is the first product that's able to stimulate most of the collagen in the skin, including collagen I, III, IV, VII and XVII," explained Dr. Rosenberger. "It's like a total collagen care package for the skin.
Clinical data also show that in only 28 days, fine and deep wrinkles are reduced with the application of formulations containing SYN ? -TC. SYN ? -TC is water-soluble and compatible with most ingredients used in skin care formulas. It can be added to formulations having a pH of 3 to 6.5."

ALPAFLOR? EDELWEISS was another highlighted product from DSM. "This is a rare mountain  flower native to Switzerland," Dr. Rosenberger explained, holding a small pot of real Edelweiss flowers
in his hand. "It can survive in a harsh alpine environment with exposure to high UV radiation and extreme fluctuations in climate. This star-shaped flower is known also as a star of survival, due to its special cell protection system."

Human skin is exposed to stress factors like city pollution, weather changes and UV light on a daily basis. Constant exposure to such stress factors makes the skin sensitive and leads to accelerated skin aging. This Edelweiss extract gives a new level of protection against environmental stress, and hence a more comfortable skin feel and sensation. ALPAFLOR? EDELWEISS is suitable for day care products as well as sunscreens. "Scientific data on different genes related to skin protection clearly showed the specific capability of ALPAFLOR? EDELWEISS extract to protect the skin," added Dr. Rosenberger.

ALPAFLOR? is the name of DSM's natural organic product line. ALPAFLOR ? EDELWEISS is ECOCERT and NATRUE certified, according to Dr. Rosenberger. "Although  initially  ALPAFLOR? EDELWEISS was launched on the basis of its outstanding antioxidant properties, new findings have shown that EDELWEISS extracted  from  the  particular  species Leontopodium alpinum var. Helvetia offers even more benefits in terms of skin barrier proteAdidas
