AQUACULTURE company, Asmak Bahrain, announced that it will begin selling the first batch of fish produced at its facilities in June. Asmak was founded in 2010 as the first open-sea floating cage aquaculture project in Bahrain.
Chairman Saqer Shaheen, who set up the operation along with other food industry leaders to replenish Bahrain’s fish stocks, boost the country’s food security, and create new jobs, told shareholders, “We have completed phase one of the project and overcome all the challenges.”
The company’s aquaculture operation is expected to reach a harvesting capacity of 1,500 tons by the fifth year of operations in September. This is equivalent to 12% of the total fish supply in Bahrain.
