Meatless Monday, Friday abstinence, now vegetarian Wednesday. The association LAV (Lega Anti vivisezione) has launched in Italy ‘mercoledì veg’ which aims to give Wednesday an entirely vegetarian feel in the home and in restaurants.
The proposal will help save the planet and imbibe in consumers a healthier lifestyle.LAV says that replacing 1kg of meat with vegetable protein saves 36 kg of carbon dioxide and at least 15,500 litres of water a week. If the entire adult Italian population would adopt the ‘mercoledì veg’, carbon dioxide reductions would amount to the equivalent of 1 billion kilometres by car and 1 billion litres of water.
