A senator in Australia, Senator Lee Rhiannon of the Greens, is introducing a bill to Parliament this week that would ban all testing on animals for cosmetics in the country – as well as all imported cosmetics that have been tested on animals. The End Cruel Cosmetics Bill would allow for a six-month transition period. It is being supported by the animal welfare group Be Cruelty-Free Australia.
This comes after U.S. Senator Jim Moran introduced a similar bill in the U.S., following the EU’s lead. And countries around the world are doing the same – bans are already in place in Sao Paolo, Brazil, as well as India.
