Bacardi employees in 35 countries organise activities to help their communities

HAMILTON, Bermuda – Bacardi Limited has dedicated one month to fulfil its corporate social responsibility programme, “Spirit for Life, Caring Together”, which consists of employee volunteer projects in communities across the globe. The projects, accomplished in May, were tied around the theme of keeping communities strong and environmentally sustainable. Amongst activities were blood donation, fund raising for food banks, garden renovation for the poor and elderly, clothing donation, clean-up of parks and community centres, protection of trees and wildlife, and caring for homeless animals.

This practice was started in 2012, and this year, Bacardi gave its employees more freedom to engage in more activities. More than two-thirds of Bacardi employees worldwide participated in the initiative representing 41 offices and facilities in 35 countries. Employees volunteered nearly 9,500 hours in some 98 different activities.

Bacardi employees from the Bacardi Americas Headquarters office in Coral Gables, Florida, volunteered their time to assist with the Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter's dune restoration project. Apart from this, the company continues with its sustainability campaign to use less natural resources and maximise its carbon footprint. It has been able to cut its water consumption globally by 50% and energy consumption by 33%.
