BASF is reportedly looking at options and consulting with banks and financial advisers on making a counter bid for DuPont after DuPont's merger with Dow Chemical Co. in December, according to several media reports that cited sources with knowledge on the matter. Another report said that BASF has tapped Deutsche Bank and Citigroup to assist with a deal, but no counter bid has been made yet.
It was reported that BASF, the world’s biggest chemicals company, has been consulting with advisers since 2015 on its bid for DuPont. The chemicals giant even held talks with DuPont before the merger with Dow but the talks didn't progress, according to a Bloomberg report.
In December 2015, Dow and DuPont announced the industry’s biggest merger that resulted in the world’s largest agriculture business and the second-biggest chemicals company after BASF. The DuPont-Dow merger has not been finalized but continues to move forward, according to another media report.
