Bayer celebrates the 150th anniversary of its founding this year by holding various activities across the globe focusing on the company’s achievements.

Bayer will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding this year across the globe, as well as in the United States. The company’s achievements will be celebrated through many activities and events for employees, neighbors, customers, partners and the scientific community.

“We are proud to celebrate such a significant milestone in our company's history and recognize the important work of our many valued employees,” said Philip Blake, President, Bayer U.S.A. “It also presents an opportunity to share our story with the public we serve as we strive toward our mission, Bayer: Science For A Better Life.”

The Bayer Cares Foundation will support 150 current and retired Bayer employee volunteerism projects that will help improve lives in Bayer communities around the world. The foundation will contribute a total gift of 603,571 EUR, equivalent to more than three quarters of a million dollars ($784,642 utilizing a $1.30 per EUR conversion rate) for the 150 projects, which were selected by a panel of judges. In the United States, nine Bayer employees and retirees have been selected for a total U.S. donation of nearly $37,000 (28,427 EUR) for local community projects.

Nearly 700 employees and retirees from over 60 countries applied to Bayer for support for a project in which they volunteer their services as part of the 150th anniversary program "Being a role model pays off!" Last year alone, approximately 1,800 Bayer employees volunteered nearly 19,000 hours to local volunteer programs in the United States.

Bayer is also hosting a major exhibition which will travel to some 30 venues in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australia to mark the 150th anniversary. The mission, Bayer: Science For A Better Life, is the theme of the exhibition, which gives visitors a chance to see and experience how Bayer improves the quality of life for people worldwide. The exhibition focuses on the topics of health care, agriculture and high-performance materials.

At most museums, the visitors are warned "Do not touch", but on the Bayer Anniversary Tour, that rule does not apply. On the contrary: the exhibits – microscopes, thermal imaging cameras, digital games and many more – are designed specifically to be touched and tried out. The exhibit is comprised of 22 boxes with capital letters, each of which refers to a Bayer topic, such as A for Aspirin. Each box contains images and informational text on the scientific background and social aspects of the Bayer topic in question.

The Bayer Anniversary Airship is also on a global tour to celebrate the company’s 150th anniversary. The Airship stopped in the U.S. on May 16-23 to visit New York City and Northern New Jersey. The Bayer Airship will make stops on five continents this year, including visits to major metropolitan areas such as Johannesburg, Tokyo, Singapore, Rio and Barcelona. The Bayer Airship coADIDAS
