Bayer MaterialScience starts up new PC sheet plant in Guangzhou

Bayer MaterialScience (BMS)starts operation of its new polycarbonate (PC) sheet production plant at its facility in Guangzhou. The new production plant is equipped with solid sheet units and multiwall sheet units to serve growing demand of target industries such as construction, agriculture, mass railway transit, lighting box, and particularly high optical demand safety and security, protection, as well as glazing and LCD/LED industry.

Advanced technology brought about by the latest extrusion machinery and processing control enables the plant to turn out more diversified PC sheets. The thickness of the solid sheets ranges between 1-20mm but the width reaches up to 2.5m, to suit the requirements of various industries. PC sheets are favored material for glazing, safety and security, protection and LCD/LED industries due to their excellent optical features and high degree of precision.

The new sheet production plant is an important move for BMS in strengthening its presence in emerging economies, according to Holly Lei, President of Business Unit Polycarbonates at Bayer MaterialScience China. The PC market is growing in south China as well as in the coastal areas owing to increased demand from downstream users in many areas. The new plant will also serve the Southeast Asian market.

BMS Guangzhou sheet plant has laid a strong foundation for the new production line, with years of efforts on technical development and talent cultivation, said Li Beichuan, General Manager of BMS Guangzhou Site.

The PC sheet production line is located in Guangzhou Yonghe Economic and Technologic Development District. The BMS site also reflects the company's investment in state-of-the-art facilities to serve rapid-growing markets in Asia.
