Berry Plastics Group, Inc. is the recipient of the 2013 Tube of the Year Award for a packaging designed for the French’s Food Company. The companies collaborated to create a one-step marinade package suing a laminate tube, custom ‘spike’ marinade injector, and clear overcap.

Alex Abbott, director for Product Line Management at Berry explained, “The French’s Food Company asked Berry Plastics to help deliver a package that could be a ‘one time’ use and eliminate the typical ‘mess’ of marinades.” The result is the French’s Flavor Infuser, a design which allows the user to directly inject the marinade into the meat, thereby ensuring the marinade seeps into the meat within 10 minutes versus topical application. The design also prevents messy applications.
Working directly with each other, the companies developed the product, from concept to manufacturing in nine months, which is an obvious advantage for French’s. Moreover, consumers will benefit from the new design: the clear overcap allows them to see the red spike and the tube is easy to squeeze.
