Shanghai Baiwen Exhibition Co Ltd, the owner of the renowned cosmetics exhibition in China, “China Beauty Expo (Shanghai CBE)”, recently announces a joint venture with Informa Group from the UK (“Informa”), the organizer of the Beyond Beauty trade show in Paris. They will combine networks, processes and skills to expand the Shanghai beauty-based portfolio to a pan-Asian audience.

The 2013 China Beauty Expo was composed of three co-located exhibitions: Cosmetics China, with over 800 exhibitors, Cosmetech, with more than 500 exhibitors and Beauty Shanghai with nearly 300 exhibitors. Each focuses on specific sub-sectors, namely, cosmetics, skincare and fragrances; equipment, packaging and ingredients; and professional salons and spa products. In total there were 1,657 exhibitors across 120,000sqm of exhibition space, including 10 country and group pavilions and a total of 257 direct international exhibitors. CBE 2013 attracted 245,000 professional visitors, covering 80 countries and regions, 32 provinces and municipalities from the mainland of China. The Chinese Retail Summit and the Meiyi Award, dedicated to new products, are among the highlights of the show.

For the first time, the 2014 edition of China Beauty Expo will also welcome a new exhibition area - ZOOM Asia - alongside the Beauty Challenger Awards Asia, to recognize new beauty brands attempting to expand in the Asian market. The event will host a multitude of activities for leading brands in each category, generating more trade opportunities for all the participants.

According to the latest figures from China Association of Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetics Industries, cosmetic sales in China maintain an average annual growth rate of 10-20%, second only to the USA and Japan. Cosmetic industry revenue reached 189 billion Yuan (USD 31.5 billion) in 2013 and USD 11.6 billion for skincare only (Mintel).

Peter Rigby, Informa’s CEO, said, “This is a strategically important and exciting move for Informa. The joint venture with Shanghai Baiwen Exhibition Company significantly strengthens our presence in the region, and increases our stake in the beauty and medical beauty industries globally. China Beauty is an invaluable addition to our growing portfolio of large-scale exhibitions. We are absolutely thrilled with the partnership and the exciting opportunities which it brings”.

The Chairman of China Beauty Expo (Shanghai CBE), Mr Sang Jingmin, said, “We are proud of our ability to facilitate this development and create value for our customers. The partnership with Informa will provide us with huge opportunities, enabling us to use the CBE Chinese buyers’ resources and professional information as a ‘green channel’ for all international companies wishing to enter the China’s market, particularly from Asia“.

David Bondi, COO, Informa Exhibitions Asia said, “This is a major step forward in the beauty and medical beauty industries and strengthens Informa’s presence in a market with exponential growth opportunities. Together, ‘Informa-Baiwen’ will offer the beauty business community new solutions in China and Asia, building on Informa’s existing portfolio run globally out of Paris, the world capital city of beauty, and on Baiwen’s strong offering in Shanghai, the epicentre of the beauty industry in Asia”.
