HONG KONG – The China Wine Awards (CWA) and China Spirits Awards (CSA), the biggest wine competition in Hong Kong and Greater China, are being held today (18 September) at the ballroom of The Mira Hotel in Hong Kong. CWA and CSA are the only awards in the world wherein wines and spirits are judged specifically for the China market.
Wines from 35 countries have been specially flown into Hong Kong for this historic competition to be blind tasted by 100 of the most important major wine & spirits buyers, distributors, food & beverage directors and sommeliers based in Greater China who understand the Chinese market.
Bottles with price tags of up to HKD 10,000 will compete to win the awards organised by Greater China’s most prestigious wine competition organisation headed by CWA president, Kelly England. China drank 1.8 billion bottles of wine in 2011, growing 33% on the previous year, so discovering the best wine is an important process.
The last China Wine Awards competition received worldwide press attention for its unique format and vast size.
"The China Wine Awards is proud to be leading Hong Kong's wine industry, with the high profile event they deserve.’ said Ms England. ‘With amazing mixologists launching exclusive James Bond worthy new tea and Royal Dragon Vodka Cocktails, Grand Cru Chocolate & Wine Matching and the fun Chateau Baccarat Crystal Challenge with music from Australian DJ Antman, the event will be fun and fabulous for all wine and spirits VIP’s and media alike."
This year, in keeping with the high spirits of the event, supermodel and actor Ankie Beilke – fresh from shooting with Kung-fu legend Sammo Hung will be the special guest.Gifts for Runners
