Baobab Foods shares study conducted by Brunswick Laboratories; explores opportunities with manufacturers to incorporate baobab into food and drinks

Results of a study by Brunswick Laboratories show that the bioavailability of baobab nutrients is higher than those of other superfruits including acai, pomegranate and grape seed extracts. A native of Africa, Madagascar and parts of Australia, the baobab is highly nutritious, containing the following:

  • Antioxidants – more than blueberries, pomegranate, goji berries and acai
  • Fibre – composed of 50% total fiber of which 75% is ultra-healthy soluble fiber
  • Calcium – gram for gram, more calcium than milk
  • Vitamin C – six times more than orange juice
  • Electrolytes – high levels of magnesium, and more potassium than bananas or coconut water
The African variety, however, has six times more antioxidants compared to those found in other regions.

Baobab Foods, which commissioned the study, is exploring opportunities with a number of leading food manufacturers to incorporate baobab into beverages, smoothies, nutrition powders, trail mixes, cereals, granola bars, and other applications.

At SupplySide West in Las Vegas, the company  (Booth# 24007) will exhibit its line of Baobab Fruit Powder, Drink Mixes, and new Fruit Cubes. It will also be discussing other botanicals sourced from southern Africa, including:

  • 20% standardised polyphenol Rooibos tea extract
  • 30% standardised fulvic acid powder
  • Standardised Moringa leaf extract powder
  • Marula oil
  • Baobab oil
