RESULTS of a study by Brunswick Laboratories show that the bioavailability of baobab nutrients is higher than those of other superfruits including acai, pomegranate and grape seed extracts. A native of Africa, Madagascar and parts of Australia, the baobab is highly nutritious, containing calcium, fibre, vitamin C and electrolytes. The African variety, however, has six times more antioxidants compared to those found in other regions.
Baobab Foods, which commissioned the study, is exploring opportunities with a number of leading food manufacturers to incorporate baobab into beverages, smoothies, nutrition powders, trail mixes, cereals, granola bars, and other applications.
