Borouge contracts IRSHAD to handle port operations

Borouge’s port and container yard operational services at Ruwais awarded to Abu Dhabi Petroleum Ports Operating Company (IRSHAD)

BOROUGE, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, signed a contract with the Abu Dhabi Petroleum Ports Operating Company (IRSHAD) to handle Borouge’s port and container yard operational services at Ruwais, in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, starting from December 2014.

As the new contractor, IRSHAD will be carrying out the handling operations of Borouge’s packed and palletized products and bulk loaded containers shipped from Ruwais site to the company’s UAE Gateway hubs including Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali and Khor Fakkan Port for onward shipment to Borouge’s customers and overseas warehouses.

“We are pleased to cooperate with such an experienced service provider like IRSHAD for carrying out the port handling operations of our products out of Ruwais production facilities,” said Abdulaziz Alhajri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers (Borouge). “We look forward to the efficient and quality services IRSHAD will be providing us.”

Borouge-Irshad port handling contract

The contract was signed by Abdulaziz Alhajri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge), and Khalifa Al Qubaisi, general manager of IRSHAD, during a ceremony held at Borouge’s headquarters at the Shaikh Khalifa Energy Complex in Abu Dhabi

IRSHAD is expected to have operations ready within 75 days from the awarding of the contract in respect of the Borouge 3 port operations and take over the operations for Borouge 1 and Borouge 2 port operations from 1 December 2014.

The total expected throughput by 2016 is approximately 661,000 TEUs including inbound empties and outbound full containers.

Borouge was established in 1998 as joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria-based Borealis. IRSHAD is also one of the ADNOC’s Group of Companies.
