Borouge has obtained the coveted ISO 50001:2011 certificate for two plants - Borouge1 and Borouge 2 - both located in Ruwais. The ISO 50001 certification specifies requirements for an Energy Management System and enables the organization to have a systematic approach to continuous improvement of its energy performance, greater energy efficiency and sustainability.
The certification was granted Borouge following a thorough and rigorous implementation of the Company’s Energy Management System which reflects Borouge’s commitment to sustainable operations. RINA Services, one of the oldest and most reputed international certification bodies, audited and certified the company’s Energy Management System to this standard.

“Implementing Energy Management System was challenging, but highly inspiring,” said Abdulaziz Alhajri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge). He added that to embrace the energy efficient culture in its right spirit, Borouge decided to develop the system internally utilizing its own resources and capitalizing on the knowledge acquired in the past.
In March 2014, Borouge signed a contract with RINA Services to audit and certify the company’s quality, environment and energy management systems to ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards. The contract signed involves a certification that covers the head offices of Borouge in Abu Dhabi and Singapore, the company’s petrochemicals manufacturing facility in Ruwais, the Compounding Manufacturing Plant in Shanghai and a network of offices across the Asia Pacific region.
