Brazil positions itself with first-rate raw materials and trendy confectionery products
Brazil will be the partner country of the 44th International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM), which will take place from 26 to 29 January 2014 in Cologne. This will be the first time that the spotlight will focus on a South American country. With nearly 200 million inhabitants, Brazil is an attractive emerging sales market for confectionery and snack items. In addition, it has an attractive and powerful confectionery sector of its own. At ISM, Brazil will demonstrate its expertise in the production, processing and marketing of innovative and export-oriented products. The partner country's activities will be designed by the Brazilian Chocolate, Cocoa, Peanuts, Candies and Byproducts Industry Association (ABICAB). The country's key point of contact will be the Brazilian pavilion in Hall 5.2. Following Turkey, Belgium and Russia, Brazil will be the fourth partner country of the world's most important trade fair for confectionery and snack items.

With around 30 exhibitors, Brazil sends one of the largest country delegations to ISM. The percentage of exhibitors from abroad has traditionally been high at ISM. In 2014, approximately 82 per cent of the suppliers will once again come from outside Germany. The visitors of  ISM are very international as well. Around 35,000 buyers from 150 countries registered for the last ISM in 2013.

As South America's largest country, Brazil has a lot to offer to the confectionery and nuts sector. According to Euromonitor, the country's market has a volume of about $12.7 billion. It is estimated that Brazil will have the world's second-largest confectionery market in 2016.

Brazil's producers offer a broad range of products that include chocolate, sugar confectionery, nuts and mixed nuts. State-of-the-art production processes and production facilities as well as numerous innovations ensure that these products are very competitive on the international confectionery market.

Brazil is also known for the outstanding quality of its nuts, especially peanuts and cashews. Brazil also cultivates the acai palm, from which palm hearts and palm fruit are harvested, as well as guarana, the acerola cherry, and other important raw materials for confectionery and snack items. The country also processes these materials into food and beverage products.

The global confectionery business will also get a boost from the World Cup 2014, which will be hosted by Brazil. Companies that have not yet placed their orders for this gigantic sports event by the beginning of the year will be able to do so at ISM.
