CHINAPLAS 2013, Asia’s biggest trade exhibition and world’s third largest show for the plastics and rubber industry, took off on a very positive note in Guangzhou, China. The show recorded 114,103 visitors, of which 30,770 came from overseas.

This 27th edition is the largest ever edition as it breached past records in terms of exhibition area, number of exhibitors, pavilions and machines on the floor. A total exhibition area of 220,000sqm was set aside for the 2,900 exhibitors and 14 pavilions. More than 3,200 sets of advanced machines were also demonstrated. The show filled up 25 halls with 11 theme zones and 14 country/region pavilions.

Aside from the launch of highly efficient, energy-saving technologies and machineries, this year’s edition focused on the importance of sustainable materials. In an era where rapid urbanisation and infrastructure improvement occur, three key plastic building materials such as plastic profiles, pipes and panels are entering a period of steady growth in China.Other new-type plastic building materials, such as plastic windows/doors, high-molecular waterproof materials, thermal insulating materials, solar diaphragm, plastic reinforced tile, wall support parts and building heating plastic pipes, offer a full range of green building features from light weight, low energy consumption in production and application to outstanding thermal and electric resistance to speed up the revolution of green buildings.

This year, the theme focused on novel and environmentally-friendly plastic construction materials which areaesthetically pleasing and practical. The concurrent event, named “Archi-Light”, made use of plastic building materials of various light transmittance in combination with the visual effect on buildings to exhibit the light transmittance of plastics and thus accomplish the target of less energy consumption. “Archi-Light” consisted of three parts with the first part “Archi-Light Concept House”, a future building erected at exhibition site sponsored by Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC). It was the first time for SABIC to participate in such a large scale plastics building materials promotion event in Asia. Aside from construction and building materials, CHINAPLAS also recognised the rising market and bigger “Die & Mould Zone” in order to cope with buyers’ needs from different industries and to serve as a distinguished comprehensive sourcing platform.

Both the production quantity and quality of the manufacturing industry of China have been under a rapid growth during the 12th Five-year Plan, especially for the automotive and electronics manufacturing industries which have been developing at a fast pace in China and further enhanced the domestic enterprises’ requirements on mould and die technologies and manufacturing equipment. Over 200 Chinese and international exhibitors participating, including numerous well-known mould players, e.g. LKM, Push, Sino Mould, Jing Cheng Mould, Mold Masters, Yudo, Hotsys, Mould-Tip, Incoe, Keda, Sure Hot Runner, Carl Zeiss, Huida and Hexagon Metrology, etc. There were also pavilions organised by Hong Kong Mould & Die Council and Taiwan Mold & Die Industry Association. The next edition of CHINAPLAS is scheduled on 23 – 26 April 2014 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
