DESPITE progress in biotechnology, interest in non-GMO products remains strong, according to Ethan Theis, food ingredients commercial manager, Cargill. The company therefore ventured in non-GMO soybean oil production using identity-preserved (IdP), conventionally-bred (non-GM) soybeans. The oil is refined in Cargill’s plant in Iowa, which uses a process certified by the SGS global inspection, verification, testing and certification firm.
The oil is currently in limited supply owing to the intricate process involved. However, the company will be able to engage in industrial-scale production.
