CHINAPLAS 2014: IMCD to expand distribution network in Asia

Source:Ringier Trade Media Release Date:2014-05-07 185
Plastics & Rubber
IMCD Group B.V. has eyed emerging markets in Asia as promising locations for its expansion.

IMCD Group is a leading international company in sales, marketing and distribution of specialty chemicals and food ingredients. The company represents major producers, and employs sales people who are market-focused technical experts capable of offering solutions for customers’ problems utilising its comprehensive and complementary product portfolio.

Such expertise and wide knowledge of multi-territory distribution management in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and even South America enabled the company to forge open and lasting partnerships with suppliers and customers.

At CHINAPLAS 2014, Johan Scholten, Director for Plastics at IMCD Group identifies growing markets in Asia that the company is exploring and where growth opportunities abound. “IMCD has been growing fast in the last decade. We started as a Europe-based company but we have expanded our market to various regions around the world. To date, we distribute in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand – and lately South America (Brazil) and South Africa,” according to Mr. Scholten.

At China, IMCD’s growth has been consistent since it began sourcing from the country. “Our target is to grow in China, as well as in other parts of Asia. But our biggest activity remains in China, and this is being actively pursued through our headquarter in Singapore,” Mr. Scholten explained.

The focus on Asia, specifically China, has been a strategic one. “Europe is getting better now economically, but there is no big expectation for huge growth in Europe. IMCD considers China and the rest of Asia as region that should not be underestimated given the huge business and number of suppliers wanting to do business with us,” Mr. Scholten said. For IMCD Group, there is still a lot to do in Asia and the opportunities are abundant despite the competition.
