CHIRON in-house exhibition focuses on productivity, accuracy & dynamics

NEARLY 1,900 guests attended this year's CHIRON Open House in-house exhibition in Tuttlingen, Germany, from March 18 to 20. This was a quarter more than in the previous year. A good twenty percent of the visitors came from abroad, especially from European countries, Asia as well as North and South America.

Three innovations for greater productivity, accuracy and dynamics

In addition to the new generation of the compact vertical machining centers of the series 12, there were two more premieres at the in-house exhibition: For the first time, the new, highly accurate version of the "FZ08 MT precision plus" and the new dynamics package for the MILL series were introduced. 

As in previous years, CHIRON employees personally looked after all visitors and showed them around the in-house exhibition. Many visitors took advantage of this offer to discuss specific projects right there with CHIRON experts.

A plus for precision:The "FZ08 MT precision plus" turning-milling center

With a footprint of three square meters, the new highly dynamic "FZ08 MT precision plus" turning-milling center provides a solution for even more accurate results. In spite of the small footprint, it offers traverse paths (X-Y-Z) of 210 mm, 200 mm and 360 mm, an integrated swivel head, a turning spindle and a counter spindle. In addition to the standard reliable ball screws, linear direct drives are also available. This means the "FZ08 MT precision plus" is well equipped to meet the most demanding requirements at the surface of the workpiece – such as with feed parts and work from the bar. Thanks to extensive equipment options, the FZ08 MT turning-milling center can be used as a real all-rounder for many different applications.

Full-fledged turning machining
The highly precise swivel head works with a torque drive which has a swivel range of -10° up to +100° and delivers speeds of up to 54,000 rpm. Up to 100 tools are quickly deployed from the pick-up tool magazine. Workpieces with complex geometries can be conveniently processed from six sides by using a counter unit with an integrated swivel axis. Full-fledged turning machining is also available: The turning spindle with its bar passage of 32 mm features a speed of 8,000 rpm and a torque of 11 Nm.
 

The new dynamics package for the MILL series

CHIRON presented a new dynamic package to improve performance to companies aspiring to manufacture lightweight body and structural components in an even faster and more productive fashion. It is based on a rigidity and weight-optimised machine structure and highly dynamic drives. These guarantee maximum productivity during both machining and non-machining times with axis accelerations up to 1.7 g as well as a rapid traverse speed of 75 m/min.
 

The new generation of the series 12

The new generation of the series 12 of compact vertical machining centres for efficient complete machining had its premiere. Special highlights of the multifunctional machining centers include improved milling and drilling capacities for series production at a low cost per piece, the highly rigid and robust construction and the low space requirement of five square meters. Size-45 linear guides on all three axes ensure maximum precision and the best machining performance. The spindle allows powerful machining with a performance of up to 44 kW at a maximum speed of 18,000 rpm and a torque of 59 Nm. Even without a separate background magazine, 128 HSK 50 tools are available for the first time in two magazine shafts for efficient complete machining – twice as many as in the previous model. Chip-to-chip times of 2.4 seconds prove the high dynamics of the new series 12.

New Medical and Precision Technology Center
In addition to the machine innovations, CHIRON presented the new Medical & Precision Technology Center to the general public for the first time. There, engineers and technicians with backgrounds in medical technology and/or horology advise an increasing number of customers from these industries and develop comprehensive process solutions with them for the most efficient production possible.

With the opening of the new centre of excellence, CHIRON has responded to a growing interest in complete process solutions for an efficient production of medical instruments and implants and the rising cost pressures in the industry.
