For the third time, GROB, an international family-run company headquartered in Mindelheim, is showcasing its products at the China International Machine Show (CIMT).

But what is new is that GROB is represented here for the first time by its newly-opened production plant in Dalian (2012), plus of course its two Chinese branches in Beijing (2003) and Shanghai (2005). In GROB's view, the CIMT, the most important trade fair for the Asian machine tool industry – to take place at the end of April – will be the company's first "home game". Exhibited here will be the new GA350 from the GA350 and GA550 Asian series, which grew out of the successful G350 and G550 universal machine series, and is produced entirely in Dalian.

The machine on show at the trade fair is the GA350 5-axis uni-versal machining center GA350 with SIEMENS SINUMERIK controls and a disk magazine with 40 tool locations. With a steel chipping demonstration and 5-axis simultaneous machin-ing in aluminum, the GA350 will be showing off its capabilities to CIMT visitors.

Running in parallel to the trade fair is the Technology and Applications Center (TAZ) in GROB's Dalian plant, which was equipped with new machines that are precisely what the market demands. In the new showroom in Dalian, customers can see at work a GA350 with Fanuc controls and pallet changer, a GA350 with SIEMENS controls and a tool magazine with 133 storage locations, plus a GA550, which boasts an extremely powerful motor spindle with 9,000 min/1 and a torque of 575 Nm. GROB has had a presence in China for nearly 25 years
The success story for GROB in China started in the late 1980s, when tendering and orders were still processed together from Germany through local agencies. The first orders were handled by the Chinese joint venture partners of western automobile manufacturers. So, for example, the first delivery of a production line for automobile cylinder heads and special machines for camshaft bearing covers dates from 1989, the year of the first CIMT. The first direct order with a Chinese partner, not within a joint venture project, was completed in 2Womens Running Shoes
