The high-level international forum with the theme of "innovation sustainable development", which is the high-end supporting activity of CIMT2013 (The 13th China International Machine Tool Show) was held in April 21 at the China International Exhibition Center. There were 10 experts from the global machine tool industry, machine tool users and academia who gave the speech. They spoke about sustainable development in the machine tool industry. The forum was atteneded by 200 delegates coming from the middle and senior managers, engineers and technicians, device management and procurement staff in the fields of machine tool industry and the users.
The President and C.E.O of CMTBA, Professor Wu Bailin will give the opening speech.
The followings are the speakers and their speech description.
Douglas K. Woods
President of AMT (The Association for Manufacturing Technology)
Topic: Leveraging Innovation to Drive the Economy
Content: AMT President Douglas K. Woods focused on the importance of innovation and the link between innovation and sustainable development. Both the U.S. and China are facing challenges around these areas and can learn from each other to further their own industries. Mr. Woods will touch on these three points: 1) Competition and its role in driving growth; 2) China's clear direction and collaboration on a focused five-year plan leading to success; and finally 3) how AMT sees innovation's future.
As China looks toward the next phase of development for its manufacturing industry, it faces challenges related to sustainability and rising labor costs. Likewise, the U.S. is looking for ways to address its own issues around a labor shortage and need for collaboration between industry, government, and academia. The discussion toward a solution for all of these challenges centers on a need for innovation.
AMT has developed The Manufacturing Mandate as a national strategy to bolster the U.S. manufacturing sector. Meanwhile, CMTBA has been working with its members to promote innovation toward sustainable growth. The common themes among both are key for each country to build a successful and sustainable manufacturing industry.
Yuan Li
