Clariant buys packaging specialist in HK

IN A MOVE to expand its packaging business in Asia Pacific, Clariant makes a decision to acquire the packaging manufacturer, VitaPac. The specialty chemicals company in Switzerland recently signed the purchase agreement on a deal that is expected to close by the end of the year.

“The acquisition of VitaPac is in line with our strategy to grow profitably by investing in new technologies and new markets,” said Hariolf Kottmann, CEO of Clariant. “It will enable us to enhance Clariant’s existing portfolio of packaging solutions with new innovative products from the active packaging area, helping us to further develop our positioning in the medical specialties market.”

VitaPac, with 80 employees, is based in Hong Kong with production facilities in Dongguan, China. It specialises in protective packaging for nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals and food, as well as for the logistics and electronics for markets in APAC. Active sorbents and desiccant packets are also manufactured by the company.
