Protection solutions for light metals to be featured from November 20-22

SHANGHAI – Driven by the need to reduce weight so as to increase energy and fuel efficiency, light weight materials such as aluminium alloys, magnesium, titanium and high strength steel are becoming increasingly important in many industries. In the automotive industry, for instance, the use of light metals is expected grow from approximately 30% to 70% in the next two decades. In spite of all these changes, traditional ferrous metals such as steel are continuously produced and machined. Copper or cobalt will also remain; either being used in the manufacturing process or as a part of equipment and tools.

Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, will return to the China International Lubricants and Technology Exhibition (InterLubric) in 2014 with dedicated product offerings for the industrial lubricants industry in China. With a host of feature products, including emulsifiers, lubricants and corrosion inhibitors that provide extra protection for expensive light metals and alloys, it offers specialized components for both steel and aluminum cutting and grinding fluids.

Corrosion inhibitors featured at InterLubric 2014 include the non-phosphorus Hostacor? AL, the complex ester Hostagliss? L4 and the phosphoric Hordaphos? MDIT.

Highly specialized system of emulsifiers with excellent compatibility for milky and semisynthetic cutting and forming fluids will also be featured. To better perform in Al-Mg alloys fluids, the quality of the emulsifier, Emulsogen?, is crucial in achieving a homogenous formulation with no turbidity. Its excellent emulsion stability and spontaneous emulsion formation provides high electrolyte and hard-water stability, while improving wetting properties.

The series of emulsifiers on display at InterLubric 2014 includes Emulsogen MTP 070, Emulsogen M, Emulsogen CLO 100 and Emulsogen CLE 070.

“With over 90% of Clariant’s global lubricant product line produced in China today, Chinese customers benefit from a significantly improved supply chain, shorter lead times and improved service provided by our team at Clariant,” said Michael Lyons, head of Business Segment Industrial Applications Asia Pacific, Business Unit Industrial and Consumer Specialties, Clariant.

The lubricant industry in China has been undergoing an industry-wide upgrade, prompted by the reform and transformation of the market triggered by the implementation of the 12th Five-Year Plan. While stronger domestic demand for motor vehicles coupled with a growing investment in infrastructure construction, has created heightened demand for lubricant-related products, development of new application areas is also on the rise amidst specialization of the industry in China.
