Representatives of Coca-Cola Company in Ethiopia, the East African Bottling Company, has received land from the government of Bahir Dar City to build a manufacturing plant in Ethiopia. The agreement to set up the facility was signed by East African Bottling and construction company Elmo-Olindo.
The project which costs an estimated 800 million Ethiopian birr ($US44.1m), will start construction early 2013, and will be completed in about a year. The land was chosen based on studies made by a team from South Africa on availability of drainage, access to water supplies and links to the road network. The new facility is part of Coca-Cola’s 500 million dollar investment plan, which includes the setting up of three plants by 2020. Ethiopia is one of the important markets for the beverage company, consuming 605 million bottles annually.
