A NEW addition to Multivac’s portfolio of thermoforming packaging machines gives small-scale manufacturers the capability to produce vacuum skin packs in small batches.
A popular format for protecting and presenting fresh and processed products at point of sale, vacuum skin packs normally require the use of a special machine that places the upper web around the packaged goods like second skin to retain a natural appearance.

The new R 105 MF designed by the company can process lower webs of up to 350µm thick. An entry-level model in the MultiFreshTM product family, it has the same technical equipment as Multivac’s bigger machine models for vacuum skin packs. It comes with an upper web chain guide and heating at the top. Its integrated upper web chain guide guarantees the upper web is kept stable when being guided to the sealing station. The film is heated up again once there, before being placed around the packaged goods and being sealed to the lower web over its full surface.
To match, Multivac offers a range of skin film products suitable for materials made by leading film manufacturers. The MultiFresh range of upper web products has been designed for various product shapes and heights, and is available in four thicknesses: 75, 100, 125 and 150 µm.
The MultiFresh range of lower web products is comprised of APET and PS composites and covers a wide spectrum in terms of its mechanical and barrier properties, along with different peel systems.
