FOR THE price of US$93 million, ConAgra Foods, Inc. acquires TaiMei Potato Industry Limited, a relatively new potato processing facility based in Inner Mongolia. This move favors expansion of ConAgra’s Lamb Weston?, a manufacturer of vegetable products, into the region.
Set up in 2010, TaiMei is based in Shangdu, one of the biggest potato bases in China. The company, with 340 employees absorbed by Weston upon acquisition, will speed up production to market. It is ConAgra’s first potato processing facility in China.
“Our customers have aggressive growth plans in China, and by adding ConAgra Foods’ operations in China, we will be better able to support their plans,” explained said Gary Rodkin, CEO, ConAgra Foods.
