Promoted as a 'must-attend' event of the year in the Asean region, the Plastic and Rubber Vietnam 2010 lived up once again to visitors' expectations. Opening alongside Propak Vietnam from 18-20 March 2010, the events showcased a plethora of plastics and rubber products and technology from 216 exhibitors from over 20 countries. Aside from local companies, pavilions from countries included Austria, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, China, Malaysia and others. Jointly organised by Bangkok Exhibition Services and Messe Düsseldorf, along with local partner VCCI Exhibition Service which is part of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), over 6,000 visitors witnessed the latest in the plastics and rubber production. Vietnam's economy grew by 4% in 2009, and the growth is slotted to reach by as much as 6.5% in 2010. Such projection underlines Vietnam role as a promising market for the region's plastics and rubber processing industry, as both local and export demand for electronics and automotive, in particular, is growing at a rapid pace. Based on this trend, Mr. David Aitkeq, Managing Director of event organiser Bangkok Exhibition Services Co. Ltd, said "confidence in the Vietnamese domestic market is strong. Billion dollar investment plans, announced recently by industry giants in the food, beverage, cosmetic, health care, pharmaceutical and laboratory sectors among others to expand production facilities point the way towards anticipated growth. Many businesses are stepping up their innovation efforts, reviewing long-established practices and expanding their technology base in order to be even better equipped than before to compete in the local and export markets". This event not just provided a window of opportunity for buyers to keep themselves updated on technological breakthroughs, cutting edge processing techniques and market trends but also facilitated industry networking and knowledge sharing through a series of seminars, workshops, and round table discussions. An insightful conference programme provided an ideal platform for exchange of ideas, technology update and business networking between stakeholders in manufacturing sectors. This time, aside from the Packaging and Industrial Polymer Group which I represent, DuPont's exhibit also featured other business groups within the company and their products. We had more visitors this time coming to ask business-related questions.
