CONSUMER packaging leader Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) has completed its acquisition of EMPAQUE from Heineken N.V.
Earlier this month, Crown based in Philadelphia has secured approval from Mexico’s Federal Competition Commission to acquire EMPAQUE, which operates a facility for beverage can ends, aluminium closures and bottle caps, and a glass bottle plant and glass service facility in Monterrey, Mexico.
Crown also announced it will invest in a new beverage can plant in the property currently owned by EMPAQUE, for the production of two-piece aluminium cans in multiple sizes. The fourth manufacturing plant for Crown in Mexico will have an initial capacity of 2 billion cans annually. It starts operations by May 2016, with sales to contract customers in Monterrey and the surrounding region.
The capital of the northeastern state of Nuevo Leon, Monterrey is the third largest metropolitan area with a population of about 4 million.
