The new facility in Utrecht will develop medical and baby food

French company, Danone has established a global research centre in the Utrecht Science Park, the Netherlands.  Inaugurated on 30 September, Nutricia Research will focus on the development of medical food and baby food.

Danone is amongst several international companies that invest and expand in the Netherlands, according to Henk Kamp, Minister of Economic Affairs. At the inauguration, the minister mentioned that the Dutch government has seen €827 million in foreign investment in the first six months of the year, and the opening of 4,332 new jobs. These figures are more than double compared to the first half year in 2012, with € 378 million in investments and 1,973 jobs.

The Danone research centre adds a minimum of 400 jobs.

“We have a lot of innovation knowledge in the Netherlands, which is decisive for companies like Danone. Twelve of the world’s biggest agrifood companies have research centres in the Netherlands. And Wageningen University is world renowned for its food research,” Minister Kamp said.

In 2007 the French company took over Dutch Royal Numico, of which Nutricia is a part. Worldwide, Danone invests € 275 million per annum in food research.
