The CVT pushbelts are used for automakers in the Asia Pacific and North America regions.
Built in 2008 at the Long Thanh Industrial Park, the plant is Bosch’s first CVT pushbelt manufacturing site in Southeast Asia.
Over the past ten years, the production capacity of the factory has been continuously extended. As of December 2017, the plant successfully runs 18 production lines based on Bosch’s global manufacturing and quality standards. “The integration of our research and development efforts, innovative edge, high manufacturing capabilities and dedicated workforce has been the recipe for success thus far in Vietnam,”– said Guru Mallikarjuna, managing director of Bosch Vietnam. “At Bosch, we are dedicated to continue this upward momentum of growth, developing innovative products for the worldwide market, and growing together with our associates for many years to come.”
Growing and grooming home grown talent
Developing local workforce is key to the success of the Bosch Powertrain Solutions plant in Vietnam. The number of associates working at the Dong Nai facility has been growing steadily, from less than ten in the year of 2008 to more than 1,900 by the end of 2017. In line with the Bosch Group’s “local-for-local” strategy, the plant has one of the most comprehensive professional development programs for its associates – developing various competencies that prepares them for advance specialist skills and management tasks. As of March 2018, more than 400 associates have been sent to the leadplant in the Netherlands to guarantee a successful ramp up of the production lines and on international assignments in the Bosch group. Furthermore, Bosch Powertrain Solutions plant works closely with the Bosch Technical Industrial Apprenticeship training center (Bosch TGA) in Dong Nai to equip the plant’s future workforces. Bosch TGA was established in 2013 with the aim of training highly qualified technicians to work at the high-tech production lines and in engineering by providing a high quality dual-vocational training. As of today, 16 apprentices have started working for the plant right after graduating from the center in April 2017.
Sustainable development and investment in Vietnam by Bosch
The plant has always stayed committed to creating and preserving the harmony between manufacturing and environment. Since 2015, the plant has invested around 900,000 euros (USD 1 million) to build and operate a wastewater recycling system, with a target that the treated wastewater will constitute 65 percent of the plant’s total water consumption by 2020. Most recently, just end of 2017, Bosch announced an additional investment of 58 million euros (USD 67 million) into the plant, mainly to continue extending its production capacity as well as turning it into a smart factory. By the end of 2018, Bosch will have invested a total of 321 million euros (USD 372 million) into the plant. The investments as well as the company’s continuous growth in the past ten years demonstrate Bosch’s long term commitment to further strengthen its presence in Vietnam.
