IMNA: Please give an overview of the best features of Solid Edge? software ST5. How different is this product from those released by other companies?
Go: Solid Edge ST5 uses synchronous technology to provide enhanced support for multi-body modeling, which lets users import parts and assemblies from virtually any CAD system. This allows users from other CAD systems to seamlessly import their work into Solid Edge ST5 and start working right away. Enhancements in Solid Edge ST5 includes the ability to show an assembly in multiple positions within a drawing view, to automatically place parts lists across sheets and early align the position of dimensions. Solid Edge ST5 also includes steady state thermal simulation and when coupled with synchronous technology, users can test more alternatives in less time, so designers can reduce the need to build and test physical prototypes. Users can also make use of the n ew free Solid Edge Mobile View app on an iPad to view 3D parts and assemblies created with Solid Edge. The app includes the ability to rotate, pan, zoom, show or hide parts, and create and email images.

IMNA: What industries does Solid Edge? software ST5 serve?
Go: Solid Edge ST5 is used in many design and manufacturing companies. Some of the industries that we have identified best practices come from:
? Mould and die
? Steel
? Manufacturing
IMNA: What is the role played by your company's R&D in developing the latest feature of Solid Edge? software? Did the company tap special skills or special production processes or innovative machineries/techniques to come up with this enhancement? Please explain.
Go: We take into consideration many of the recommendations that our users have given to us over the years. As a result, the latest Solid Edge release also contains more than 1,300 new customer-driven productivity enhancements. We constantly look at technology breakthrough areas that help improve users design productivity. Synchronous Technology is a result of such an approach.
IMNA: What are some of the recent and larger challenges Asian manufacturers faced, and what do you think can be done to overcome these issues with Solid Edge? software ST5 in mind?
Go: Some of the challenges that Asian manufacturers are facing include rising costs, which makes i t harder to be competitive. They also have to ensure that Asian products are value for money and of good quality as well. Every new product launch helps our customers cut design time, and Solid Edge ST5 helps to achieve this by enabling reuse of imported models. Solid Edge ST5 uses synchronous technology to provide enhanced support for multi-body modeling, which lets users import parts and assemblies from virtually any CAD system. The resulting imported geometry can be combined into a single part or multiple parts depending on manufacturing requirements.
The continuous improvement in the simulation capabilities provides users with stronger simulation tools so they can reduce the number of prototype needed, therefore reducing a big part of cost and speeding their time to market. The enhancements in Solid Edge continue to focus on drawing productivity to help lower shop floor errors. Enhancements in Solid Edge ST5 include the ability to show an assembly in multiple positions within a drawing view, to automatically place parts lists across sheets, and easily align the position of dimensions.
These new capabilities will give designers the freedom to design without worrying and dramatically increase the design productivity, saving a substantial amount of design time. Our objective is to help customers make smarter decisions that result in better products.
