Dr. Braun
IMNA: What experiences do you have that made you confident to accept the position?
Dr. Braun: I used to work for another global leading machine tool manufacturer. In my former position I gathered comprehensive experience on market oriented product development and product policy with a strong focus on Asia. The systematic analysis of customer requirements in the region and the subsequent definition of customised solutions were decisive in successfully developing the market in regard of general growth as well as strategic positioning. In my current position I can implement this experience in South East Asia.
IMNA: As the new Managing Director, how will you lead the company to further growth?
Dr. Braun: For DMG / MORI SEIKI South East Asia our future goal is to offer and maintain application and technology excellence. We want to offer our customers not only a simple machine
but an overall solution for their specific requirements. Our new Tech Centre should act as a solution centre, where we discuss jointly with our customers their demands and develop the right solution. This also includes the development of turnkey solutions. Moreover customers should be able to collect new innovative ideas for the construction and production of their parts in order to be ahead of their own competition. Therefore we want to further improve local (industry) competence in the team and also increase the team. We will strengthen systematically the cooperation and exchange with our manufacturing plants and centres of excellence for different industries, especially aerospace, die & mould, and oil & gas as well as general engineering. We are sure that our customers will like this approach to be a strong partner for the discussion of application, technology and future trends.
Another important dimension for future growing is service. Just offering a good machine is not enough. For customers the efficiency and productivity achieved through the whole life cycle is most important. With Service Excellence we want to make sure that our customers fully make use of the machine’s capabilities in operation. Besides technical service and quick spare part supply this includes powertools such as software and tool pre-setting and most importantly training. Skilled personal is the basis for an efficient and productive use of the machine.
Finally we plan to further establish DMG / MORI SEIKI South East Asia as a major hub for our activities. By building up competence centres in application and technology and service
excellence we want to grow by supporting other markets in Asia.
IMNA: In what areas or departments will you continue to invest?
Dr. Braun: As I already mentioned the focus will be on service and applications. This means further investment in training our staff and supporting quality of service. This is what brings us to and keeps us with the customer.
IMNA: How will you establish and develop quality consciousness in your employees?
Dr. Braun: Quality is a matter of everyday operation in high-tech and innovative businesses such as DMG / MORI SEIKI. Quality shows in how internal and external processes are handled. Efficient and clearly structured processes are the precondition for quality of service. Of course, should there be issues, these have to be analysed in a structured approach and lead to a transparent and intensive dialogue with all parties. Quality from first contact until after sales service needs to continuously maintain a high level. In the end I understand quality as one of my most important personal responsibilities to serve our customers and built long term partnerships for the future.
